GEL APPLICATION QUICK FACTS:

1) This application is designed to be straightforward and not overly time-consuming. We encourage students to apply by the Early Application Deadline (March 10) to be granted access to our shortened version of the application. Those who apply after March 10 will be required to complete a lengthier written application. (*Please note – An application cannot be saved without pressing “submit.”)
2) Applicants need not have participated in UPOP to join GEL.
3) Current enrollment in a School of Engineering degree program is preferred, but an alternative may be available by petition (contact emillign@mit.edu). Applicants outside of the School of Engineering should have a strong interest and talent for engineering.
4) Commitment and ability to participate actively in GEL is a key requirement for admission (and for success in the program)!
5) This short video shares a few of the ways you'll benefit from your time in GEL.

Questions about GEL?

1) Check out our Website
2) Attend an info session (more details will be posted on our website). Talk with friends and classmates who are in the program.
3) Get in touch with the GEL staff or be connected with a current GEL student. Contact GEL's Eileen Milligan (emillign@mit.edu).
Editing Your Application
After you submit your application, a copy will be emailed to you for your reference.  You may copy the fields from the email into a new application form, and resubmit it with changes.  We will consider the newest submission and discard the older ones.
Take a Careful Look at the Requirements
To earn a GEL1 Certificate of Completion, you must meet all listed requirements.

http://gelp.mit.edu/students/about-gel-year-one

Students must remain on track for completion in order to remain in GEL. Please read the Gordon-MIT Engineering Leadership Program Requirements before continuing the application.

I'VE REVIEWED THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND I UNDERSTAND THEM. I FEEL CONFIDENT THAT I CAN COMPLETE THEM.

Can I annotate fields to indicate their intended use?

Yes. You can provide "Help" to your users for any field:

1. On any page in your application, click "Customize" then "Fields". If it is a multi-table application, select the table.

2. Click the "Edit" button next to the field for which you want to add an annotation.

3. In the "Help" text input box, enter text that will assist your users, and click "Save".

Your text will appear when the user hovers over or clicks on the question mark icon next to that field on the Add Record and Edit Record pages.

Items in the new table are called:

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

    • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
    • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.

Read more about converting a column into a table.
